Palmetto Chapter ABATE Meeting Minutes

December 10th, 2008

            The meeting was called to order by Dennis, and pledge of allegiance given. Ballots were passed out for the election of officers for 2009.The minutes of the last meeting were read by Jackie and approved.

 

            The Treasurer’s report was given by Vickie: previous balance was $2,052.50 with $243.72 paid out on supplies, etc. for the Christmas Parade float, leaving a balance of $1,838.78. Freebird paid in $20.00 to the account; however he was unable to remember what the money was used for. This brought the ending balance to $1,858. 78. The Treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

 

            The Products report was given by Freebird, who stated we still have a lot of t-shirts, etc., on hand, so please keep buying and selling.

 

            Walt had nothing new to add to the Legislative report. Don reminded everyone that January 13th is Lobby Day at the State House and passed around the new patch that will be given to all who attend.

 

            D.J. gave the Events report, which included a Poker run for the Make a Wish Foundation December 13th; our chapter Christmas Party on December 13th; the area meeting December 14th; the Safety Meeting December 17th; and the BOD meeting January 3rd, 2009.

 

            In discussion of old business, Freebird made a motion to allocate $250.00 for newspaper ads promoting the Cupid’s Ball. This covers 6 weeks of ads, as well as an article about the event. The motion was approved.

 

            New business discussed included the Christmas party at the House’s house, and John Mathis gave information on the Goat Island Golf Cart Parade. A motion was also made and approved to hold our January business meeting at Lakeview Landing.

 

            Ballots were then counted by Christie and Nancy, with a total of 30 votes cast. The results were accepted as follows:

Coordinator--Jay;  Assistant Coordinator--Don;  Secretary--Emily;  Treasurer--Vickie; Sergeant at Arms--Dennis;  Legislative Coordinator--Britton;  Products Coordinator--Freebird;  Events Coordinator--D.J.;  Safety Coordinator--Steve Kaldro;  Road Captains--Jerry Carter and Ronnie House. 

 

            Don reported that he should have some information on the State Party by the January BOD meeting. Alicia reported on plans to have group birthday parties quarterly, and a sign up sheet was passed for birth dates and updated e-mail addresses.

 

            The 50/50 pot totaled $92.00, with $46.00 won by Jerry Cutter, who donated it back to the Chapter.

 

            A motion was then passed to adjourn the meeting.


Palmetto Chapter ABATE Monthly Meeting Minutes

January 14th, 2009

Lakevue Landing

 

 

            The meeting was called to order by Dennis and the pledge of allegiance given. Copies of the meeting agenda were distributed; no additional issues brought forth. The agenda was approved.

            Announcements were made as follows: Karen reminded everyone to take extra precautions with their outdoor animals due to the extreme cold weather expected over the next few days. Britton reminded everyone that her birthday was Wednesday, January 21st. Also, four new members were welcomed to the chapter.

            The secretary’s report was given by Emily and accepted as read.

            The treasurer’s report was given by Vicky as follows: Previous balance was $1,950.78, with $210.00 paid out for advertising the Cupid’s Ball, leaving a new balance of $1,740.78.

            The legislative report was given by Britton, who reported there was no meeting this month. The next meeting is to be in February.

            The products report was given by Freebird who urged everyone to move the old products to make way for new items.

            The events report was given by D.J., including a protest ride to be held February 28th in Myrtle Beach ; Britton reported several events are to be organized outside the city limits of MB. Also, Don reported that May 15th through the 17th will be the third annual South of the Border weekend.

            Old business discussed included: a report on the Lobby Day events given by Britton and Jay. Several members from our chapter participated in Lobby Day. Don gave a report on the Coastal Area meeting; he has products to sell from there as well as state products. Also, Don gave information on an attorney who is providing free representation for any tickets received unfairly during the protest ride.

            Monthly and safety meeting locations were discussed. Plans were made to follow up with the Palms when they re-open. Safety meetings are to be held at member homes again after the weather warms up. Next week’s safety meeting is to be at Lakevue.

            Jay gave information about the Cupid’s Ball planning, estimated cost per person, ticket sales, etc. The article and ad are to be in the Sumter Daily Item the next week. Several tickets have already been sold with many more expected to move in the coming weeks.

            New business was discussed as follows: Don reported that Midland ’s area was assigned the state party this year, and wanted to use Camper’s Paradise in Manning for their location. The dates for the state party are June 19th through the 21st. There was much discussion of pros and cons, and many concerns were voiced about this plan. A motion was made by Jackie to call a vote on the issue; it was decided that the Palmetto Chapter would not be in favor of the Midlands area holding the state party in Manning.

            Freebird and John Jr. are currently building a web site: PalmettoABATE.org. Cost is $59 per year for a basic domain and $155 per year for unlimited pages. Jackie moved we vote on paying for the unlimited page and the motion passed. Freebird stated he already has two sponsors and plans to include the T-shirt sponsors on the page as well. John Jr. is to be the webmaster with help from Gary King as needed.

            Jay proposed that suggestions be submitted for regular chapter rides in the future, such as to Savannah for a meal, etc.

            Freebird announced a spaghetti dinner at his church January 20th, tickets $7.00.

            The 50/50 pot totaled $85, with $42.50 won by Kim.

            Kim announced that her son is traveling with the Manning High School Band to Washington D.C. for the inauguration, and was in need of spending money. A motion was made to pass the hat for him; he was congratulated for having received this honor. 

            The meeting was then adjourned.
